INTERESTS: I enjoy being active and outdoors— anything that falls under those two umbrellas I find peace with participating in. Hiking, bouldering and camping are some of my favorite’s.I also enjoy doing crafts and trying out new ones. I’m a very patient person. I find this to be very valuable in this position because I have seen people who require support feel as though they must share every detail of their lives with the people working with them and that doesn’t build a successful trustworthy relationship. I like to give people I care for the same respect I would want and allow them to feel like their own person who is in charge of their lives. I believe in giving the people I work with the empowerment of autonomy. Along with this I have also worked with people who repeat things many times because although you’re giving them an answer which might make sense to some other people, recognizing and understanding it may not make sense to them is important. When it comes to this I use patience to allow for conversation so that they do understand the answer or statement I’m providing. One thing I’ve been actively working on is listening to hear, not listening to reply. Its easy to focus on listening to be able to provide a response, but what is that response really worth if you aren’t actually listening to what they’re saying and understanding where they’re coming from.
